Albania's networks have improved fast: One Albania and Vodafone both run 5G in Tirana and along the coast, with reliable 4G in Berat, Gjirokastër and the Riviera towns. The mountain north — Theth, Valbona, the Accursed Mountains — is where signal disappears.
- Albania is not in the EU, so UK and EU roaming bundles do not include it. A local-priced eSIM avoids the surprise.
- Ksamil and Sarandë are busy in July and August; coverage holds, but speeds dip on the beaches at peak hours.
- Download offline maps before the Theth–Valbona hike and the Komani Lake ferry. There is little to no signal for long stretches.
- Furgon minibuses and buses have no timetables to speak of; a data connection for messaging your host is the practical fix.
Cash is still king outside Tirana. Data is useful for finding an ATM, but keep some lek on you.
