Mobile data in France
France has excellent 4G and growing 5G coverage, especially in Paris, Lyon, Marseille, and the Riviera. Your eSIM connects through Orange, SFR, or Bouygues — all reliable carriers with wide coverage. Rural Provence and Brittany have good coverage along main roads, though very remote villages can be weaker.
- Paris Métro stations increasingly have 4G coverage, though older deep lines can still drop signal.
- Google Maps and translation apps are essential — not everyone speaks English outside Paris.
- TGV Wi-Fi exists. It's also legendarily unreliable on a full train. Your eSIM is the safer bet for the Paris–Lyon–Marseille run.
- Hotspot sharing works well for couples and families — one plan can cover a tablet or second phone.
