Mobile data in India
India has widespread 4G coverage thanks to the Jio revolution, and your eSIM connects through major carriers like Airtel and Jio. Cities have fast connectivity, and even smaller towns have workable 4G. Coverage can weaken in very remote areas, high-altitude regions like Ladakh, and parts of the Northeast.
- Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, and Goa have excellent 4G speeds. 5G is rolling out in major metros.
- Google Maps and Ola/Uber are essential for getting around — both need reliable data.
- WhatsApp is the primary communication tool in India. Having data from the moment you land is crucial.
- If visiting Rajasthan, coverage is good in cities (Jaipur, Udaipur, Jodhpur) but weakens in desert areas.
India is a high-data-usage destination — navigation, ride-hailing, and translation apps are used constantly. A larger plan is worth it here.
